Federal Member for Leichhardt Warren Entsch has welcomed the completion of pre-selections for all five State seats in Far North Queensland. “There will be no three-cornered contests in Far North Queensland or anywhere else in Queensland,” said Mr Entsch. “This is an excellent mix of candidates; we have a range of youth and experience, male and female. Each of the candidates is a good fit for their electorates.

“Peter Scott, a resident of Cooktown, will do a lot more for residents of Cook, than the absentee incumbent whose main mission is to deliver the votes of Cook to support a government intent on turning Cape York into a depopulated, understaffed National Park that will be a paradise for feral animals and weeds.”

(The sitting Member for Cook is Jason O’Brien, Labor).

“George Adil is a man who understands his electorate and its interests. He will do more good for it as part of a team that can win government than a solitary independent can do.”

(Member for the Atherton Tableslands seat of Tablelands is Rosa Lee Long, Independent).

“Krista Dunford will bring the energy of youth to the growth corridor of southern Cairns. She is a local girl, a product of James Cook University, and in touch with the values of mainstream youth and young parents.”

(Member for Mulgrave is the Minister for Communities,. Disabilities and the Aged Warren Pitt, Labor).

“The Nationals candidates will work closely as a team with the Liberal candidates, Steve Welsh (Barron River) and Wendy Richardson (Cairns), to defeat the Beattie government at the next State election,” Mr Entsch said.

(Member for Barron River is Dr Lesley Clark, Labor, and the Minister for Environment, Local Government, Planning and Women Desley Boyle, Labor, is the Member for Cairns.)
