These photos were collected by Mr John Durso, a former charter boat operator in the Torres Strait, who now lives in Innisfail. After being published in the Torres News, this historic photo collection was donated to the Thursday Island Historical Society. Most of the photos were taken by Mrs Fergusson and her friends. Mrs Fergusson was born on Thursday Island (TI) in 1917 - one of six kids whose Scottish father worked for Burns Phip as a stonemason. She became a nurse/sister at the TI Hospital and married Mr Leslie Bramley, the local police sargeant. The Bramleys left TI in 1938 when Les was transferred to Brisbane.
